Uxua Trancoso, Brazil

“Uxua” means “Marvelous” in the language of the Pataxó Indian Tribe. This beautiful place is in Trancoso, a small fishermen town located in the south coast of Bahia. The hotel owns four little casitas facing the 16th century town green called the Quadrado, while six others are located in a tropical garden just behind. Everything was created and designed by Wilbert Das the owner together with local artisans using traditional building methods. All is rustic simplicity and laid-back charm, with hammocks and palm thatching, adobe plasterwork, local ceramics and wood carvings.

There are two restaurants specializing in traditional Bahian cuisine. Cooking in Bahia is a social event and the hotel’s main kitchen is an open structure with a counter inviting guests to sit and chat with the chefs. Nine of the casitas have kitchens and guests can cook any time on their own or in the company of local chefs happy to teach Bahian cooking!

Guests can also enjoy a nice swimming pool, a spectacular beach lounge created from old fishing boats, a gym and a very special spa offering an exclusive range of spa treatments and products.
